An initiate of any skill or discipline is in unfamiliar territory. Even within a family, the rules of apprenticeship must be defined and understood. Most people, especially Hollywood celebrities, like to ‘become’ Buddhists because Buddhism doesn’t have any rules. Even the modern Japanese Buddhists who have more Christianity than Buddhism in their religion–still don’t have many rules. That’s because Buddhism is based on data and statistics. What works?
